What you need to know before heading out to sea with the Infinity Sea Tribe:
We put a strong emphasis on the community life and group interaction aboard Infinity. Important to us are: good vibes, good humour and a high degree of self-motivation, we value industrious personalities. Crew members should have good social and communication skills and be sensitive to others. We spend lots of time together as a group doing exercise, creative performances such as theatre, singing, music, dance, games and much more. Everyone participates in maintenance work and typical sailor’s duties incl. shifts at the helm, raising the sails, cooking, regular cleaning, watch keeping, running systems and machinery and so forth. However, no previous sailing experience is required as long as you are eager to learn and help. The sailing, maintenance and communal life together require a high level of energy input and round the clock involvement. A policy of trial and notice period is applied: Within the first 4 weeks, the Infinity crew or the newcomer may decide to not pursue the voyage together, without any consequences or liabilities. We request 4 weeks notice should you decide to move on. If you fail to give the full notice and are actually leaving in less than four weeks, will still be required to pay for the full 4 weeks. Participation is voluntary (no paid positions) and the crew joining the voyage make a monthly financial contribution to the project. Crew participating 4 months or more pays 700 Euros / month. All onboard living expenses are covered: food, drink (except alcohol), lodging, fuel, mooring and clearance fees, in short everything except your personal expenses (for example, any tax or fees charged per head + visa costs are responsibility of the crew!). Monthly payments are made in advance and we ask a security deposit of 1000 Euros (we want to make sure people have enough funds to get home at the end of their journey). Sorry, the fee is not negotiable. After a minimum of 6 months, reduced participation may be considered for crew members taking on a high level of responsibility. The children onboard Infinity receive home schooling. Part time tutoring positions are available; a reduced financial contribution may be negotiated in exchange. Liability Waiver: Any new crew member joining Infinity has to sign the ship's articles and liability waiver. Medical and Travel Insurance: Everyone is responsible for their own medical and travel insurance. Please make sure that your travel insurance covers severe accidents and rescue abroad, and repatriation back to your home country in case that should become necessary (airline ticket + hospital and all emergency medical costs abroad). There are dozens of trip insurance companies. Infinity is well equipped with first aid kit, various medicines, suture and injection kit. However, please make sure you bring your own prescriptions. Check if you have the right inoculations for the countries visited. Passport: We advise you to have a valid passport for at least 2 years after arrival on the ship (for example, Marshall Islands requires validity of 1 year after entry). Visas: Also, please check embassies to see if your nationality needs a visa for each country visited. Many countries issue visas on arrival only if you have a return/onward ticket. If you are joining Infinity with a one way airplane ticket, let us know so that we can provide you with a letter signed by the Captain and ship registration copy stating that as a crew member you will leave the country by sea on the ship. This letter is equivalent to an onward ticket so entry should be granted to you without the airline company giving you any troubles. Important rules onboard: • Illegal drugs are not allowed! • the Captain has the final decision Warning: The best laid plans of mice and men can go by the wayside… we plan as best we can and hope for Neptune’s blessings! The sea can be rough and the boat will rock and roll – you may get seasick. Sometimes while at sea, we are becalmed and take down the sails and swim - yet the boat still rolls! Though well supplied with fresh water, food and electricity, these are limited as on any boat. You must want to live communally. Do not expect quiet often during the day – although the boat is large and retreat can always be found. Cabins are shared, privacy is limited. We must all listen and learn from each other. We need to be patient and tolerant. We need to be considerate to all aboard. We are not always able to have what we want, especially immediately. We are always learning by trial and error and are helping each other in this process. We have to expect the unexpected and go with it! |
Have you read about the Sea Dance Festival? How about Climate Change? The Sea Dance Festival is an evolving concept and reflects the crew’s interaction on Infinity. Your input is essential when it comes to creating a performance and keeping it rock and rolling....
This is an example on how such Sea Dance Festival may come to life on one of the islands: Our possibilities increase as sponsors and partner organisations grant support and new motivated team members join the ship with fresh ideas, talents and abilities. With your help there is no limit to what we can achieve. |
